Playtime with sea lions

Sea lions and seals are marine mammals living in the sea and part-time on land. They are part of a group called “pinnipeds” meaning “wing foot.” Sea lions love to play! They especially love to do somersaults underwater and blow bubbles. Sea lions communicate with one another by making barking like sounds and through a variety of body movements. On land their movements are gawky and awkward, but in water they move with acrobatic grace. There are physical differences between seals and sea lions. Most important is the shape of their hips and how they use their flippers. You can also see external ears on sea lions.
